The Experience

Kick start the festive season in style with an indulgent day excursion aboard the Northern Belle luxury train to the city of Winchester. Combine some festive shopping with a stroll through the historic streets, quaint shops and cafes.

Your day begins as your steward welcomes you on board the Northern Belle and shows you to your seat. Elegant tables laid with starched linen, uniquely-designed silverware and polished glasses complement the luxurious carriages.

Fine dining is a highlight of every journey and once you have settled into your seat, a delicious brunch with a Bellini is served. In the care of your steward, sit back in your plush armchair seat, enjoying the views and celebrating Britain’s glorious railway heritage as we journey to Hampshire.

On arrival in Winchester you have free time to explore the city’s sights and attractions under your own leisure. The ancient capital of England, Winchester, is an unspoilt cathedral city sitting on the edge of the rolling South Downs National Park. One of the most popular attractions is the stunning Winchester Cathedral. Additionally, there are a host of other attractions within walking distance of the station including City Mill, The Discovery Centre and The Great Hall, home to King Arthur’s Round Table.

On return to the train, a champagne reception awaits. A sumptuous dinner accompanied by our sommelier’s choice of wine is served as you mull over the many highlights of the day.

WINCHESTER CATHEDRAL

The magnificent building you see today was founded in 1079 and extensively remodelled over the next five centuries by successive bishops. Traces of many different periods and architectural styles remain.

The Cathedral was not built all at once. It’s a living handbook of the main phases of English church architecture from the 11thcentury until the early 16th century, when much of today’s building was complete.
