No wonder the West Highland Line was voted the world’s top railway journey by readers of the independent travel magazine Wanderlust, pipping both the Trans-Siberia route and Peru’s Machu Picchu line.
On this unforgettable trip aboard our 1930s Pullman-style train, you will slowly travel past lochs, glens, and waterfalls while skirting majestic mountains.
And, of course, it’s all done in outstanding luxury from the moment you board your individually decorated carriage over a red carpet.
An attentive, liveried steward will escort you to your table, set with pristine white linen, gleaming cutlery, and sparkling glassware. Your steward will then carefully pour a glass of Champagne while you enjoy some tasty canapés and study the magnificent menu. Meanwhile, our Director of Food and Beverages and their team are hard at work in our recently restored kitchen car preparing a sumptuous meal.
There are even onboard musicians to serenade you, adding an extra touch of magic to your journey. Finally, to round everything off, enjoy our Great British Cheese Board with a glass of port, followed by petits fours and a refreshing cup of Fortnum & Mason’s finest tea.
Called Rathad Iarainn nan Eilean in Gaelic, meaning “Iron Road to the Isles,” the line was built in the late 19th century to link the ports of western Scotland to Glasgow. Lord Beeching earmarked it for closure during the 1960s, but fortunately, it survived.
Discover our carefully crafted seasonal menu, showcasing fine British cuisine prepared fresh onboard by our expert chefs.
