Many of you will have seen King Charles chatting with TV presenter Jay Blades when an episode of BBC’s The Repair Shop was filmed at this magnificent stately home last year. While still Prince of Wales, the King personally saved the 18th century neoclassical masterpiece, set amid 2,000 acres of rolling Ayrshire countryside, for the nation when it was put up for sale in 2007.
Since then, the Prince’s Foundation has worked diligently to lovingly restore the building to all its former grandeur. Inside is an outstanding collection of 18th Century furniture, including many fine examples of master craftsman Thomas Chippendale’s work. Explore the magnificent Blue Drawing Room, the Pewter Corridor, the Tapestry Room, the Pink Dining Room and Lord Dumfries’s Study.
As always, the day begins in splendid fashion as you board the Northern Belle over a red carpet laid across the departure station platform. Then after being shown to your seat in one of our 1930s Pullman-style carriages, an attentive steward will serve a sparkling Bellini cocktail. That will be followed by a delicious three-course brunch as we travel north through the beautiful countryside to Ayrshire.
A luxury coach will transfer passengers to Dumfries House and then return them to the train for another champagne reception before a sumptuous five-course dinner, with wine, is served during the leisurely journey home.
