The cuisine aboard the Northern Belle matches the hundred year old standards & traditions of the train itself. Each gourmet menu comprises dishes which rival, in conception & creation, those of the finest restaurants in the world. Fresh provisions are taken on daily, so that guests are served nothing but the most superior of the nation’s fine produce.

Featuring the finest seasonal ingredients from the British Isles, classic & innovative dishes are crafted by our Executive Head Chef ‘Matthew Green’  - (Matt joined the train as Junior Sous Chef in 2006 & worked his way up the ranks to Head Chef in January 2019).

“I love my job. Every day whilst cooking I look out of the windows & see a different view of some beautiful countryside. It may be the rolling hills of the Lake District today, the mountainous Scottish Highlands tomorrow, then next week I’m off to London. That’s my inspiration”.

Celebrity chefs Raymond Blanc & James Martin have both cooked food on board.
