Arundel Castle & Gardens, West Sussex

Birmingham, Coventry, Oxford

The Experience

Join the Northern Belle luxury train for an enchanting excursion to Arundel Castle, the principal family estate of the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk.

The journey begins with a fine dining experience as brunch is served at your elegant table. Pristine white linen, bespoke china and sparkling glassware set the scene for the gastronomic delights to come.

Admire the design details of your vintage carriage, which evokes the glamorous “Belle” trains of the 1930s. Sit back and relax as liveried stewards take care of all your needs. Marvel at the beautiful scenery through your picture window as the train makes its stately way to the South coast.

On arrival into Arundel Station, it is a short 10-minute scenic stroll through the village of Arundel to the Castle.

On your guided tour, discover the grandeur of the finely preserved Castle interior with its fascinating furniture, tapestries and rare collection of paintings by renowned artists including Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Canaletto. Later enjoy the serenity and scents of the castle grounds with a stroll around the many themed gardens.

Afterwards, you are welcomed back on board with a glass of chilled champagne. Chat about the highlights of your day over a delectable five-course dinner, served with our sommelier’s choice of wine.

Perhaps take a stroll through the other carriages spotting the beautiful design touches. Handcrafted mosaics and murals make each carriage truly unique.

ARUNDEL CASTLE

The Castle is set high on a hill in West Sussex and commands the landscape on arrival at the station. It has magnificent views across the South Downs, the River Arun and the coast.

It dates from the time of William the Conqueror and is one of the longest inhabited country houses in England. Many of the original features such as the Norman Keep, Gatehouse and Barbican survive.

Between the 1870s and 1890s the house was almost completely rebuilt and the magnificent architecture in Gothic style is considered to be one of the great works of Victorian England. A Great British treasure of architecture and history.
